The last EU Commission set ambitious targets for agri-food policies, notably the “Farm to Fork” strategy and the greening of the CAP. However, over the past legislative term (2019-2024), the EU Commission had to face several challenges, including the lack of political support, the consequent legislative gridlock for flagship legislative proposals of the European Green Deal, as well as recent farmers’ protests. This policy brief will provide a comprehensive analysis of the EU’s agri-food policies over the past five years. Looking ahead, it will also propose policy options for the next mandate to sustain, enhance, and adapt the EU’s current greening agenda.
