As world leaders at COP28 declared the “beginning of the end” for fossil fuels, the environmental risks tied to oil dependency remain pressing. Oil spills, though less frequent due to improved legal frameworks and response systems, still pose significant threats to ecosystems and communities. Our new discussion paper explores the evolving risks of oil spills amid geopolitical, economic, and technological shifts, calling for proactive measures to mitigate these threats.
