Europe Jacques Delors kickstarted the new year with the launch of the Ocean Centre during its New Year’s Reception on January 15. The event, held at the Sustainable Hub, brought together over 50 participants, including partners, colleagues, and friends.
Pascal Lamy, Vice President of Europe Jacques Delors and coordinator of the Jacques Delors think tank, along with Geneviève Pons, Vice President and Director General of Europe Jacques Delors, delivered brief opening remarks. The spotlight then turned to the guest speakers: Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, and MEP Christophe Clergeau, President of the SEArica intergroup.
In his keynote speech, the Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis emphasised that the European Ocean Pact is his top priority. He shared that the Commission is actively exploring the best approach to develop the Pact and announced the launch of a public consultation next week.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration of EU institutions with civil society actors, as well as strong institutional relations with the European Parliament and the SEArica intergroup. Finally, the Commissioner expressed enthusiasm for working with Europe Jacques Delors and other stakeholders to ensure the initiative’s success.
We also thank MEP Christophe Clergeau, President of the SEArica intergroup, for his concluding comments. A special thanks also goes out to the Sustainable Hub for hosting us and to the co-working colleagues who joined the reception.
